Art and design are political tools and technologies. In a country where crisis is normalized and violence is aestheticized, feminist cultural production becomes a way to refuse erasure and tell stories otherwise. Our feminist art and design work centers collective memory, radical storytelling, and visual practices rooted in resistance. We collaborate with artists, designers, writers, and organizers to produce work that speaks from, and to, our contexts: war, survival, care, rage, and joy. We see feminist art as a method of world-building: creating languages, images, and forms that challenge dominant narratives and make space for alternative futures grounded in justice and liberation. <\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n

Bakura [\u0628\u0627\u0643\u0648\u0631\u0629] Our Feminist Calendar<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Introducing Bakura \u2014 Our Feminist Calendar, crafted through a year of public graphic design workshops.

Bakura refers to the first fruits and vegetables to arrive at the market, the earliest harvests, and beginnings \u2014 such as the first work of a writer, an artist, or an inventor. It also denotes the first fruit seen on the land.

For thousands of years, the New Year in our region began on the first of Nisan (April), marking the start of spring. The days of that month were dedicated to celebrating Akitu: the arrival of spring and the time to sow barley and wheat to secure sustenance and life. In various historical references, \u201cNisan\u201d carries the meaning of bakura \u2014 the beginning and the start of movement \u2014 in the Akkadian language. <\/p>\n\t\t\n \t\t\t

Feminism deals with language, and we want to create more opportunities to experiment with diverse languages through which our feminist messages are delivered. Relying on how art is a needed tool to express complex feminist ideas \u2014 but also the need to train artists, writers, and graphic designers in feminist conceptions of art, visual and written production \u2014 we envisioned two workshops for 2025: a Creative Writing Workshop and a Lettering Workshop, during which we discussed intersectional feminism as well as feminist tools in written and visual forms. <\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n
